Backstory

We’re Carole and Clint Hayes, and we started this blog to help track our homeschooling journey.  Our kids are Angelina, Alexander, and Christina (the AAC of AACademy Homeschooling).

We’ve both  always wanted to homeschool, even before we had kids, and before we were together—it just fits our personalities.

Angelina and Alexander’s dad (Carole’s ex-) wanted to put them in public school, so we ended up compromising on Montessori.

Now don’t get us wrong: We love the Montessori approach, really, we do. Problem is, we just can’t find a school that we’re happy with. We know how we want things done, and let’s face it: We aren’t going to find somebody else who will do things exactly the way we want them to. It really isn’t feasible, considering the number of families a school deals with.  How many other families will want things exactly as we do?  And how can any school keep all of us happy?

Basically, we believe that we know our kids. We know their strengths and weaknesses. We know their interests, and their learning styles. We know they’ll best learn what they need to know only if they’re first taught how to understand, and to be good observers of their world.  And we know that lacking a stellar school, the homeschool environment—predicated on dedicated parents—is the best for achieving that.  We have tons of resources available to us, and we have one of the strongest homeschooling communities in the country, right here in our backyard.

Really, there’s no reason for us not to do it, so here we are!
